Carole Siegler

I have served on the Catalina Foothills School District Governing Board for the past 12 years and am asking for your vote to continue on the board for another 4 years. During my tenure on the board I have served several times as board president and have been involved in each of the district’s strategic planning processes.  It is the strategic plan that brings the direction and focus for our school district’s efforts at improving all that we do for our students.

The responsibilities of a governing board include setting policy, direction, and the budget for the school district.  Board members also evaluate the district superintendent and monitor the progress of our district’s strategic plan.  How well we do our job affects our students, our community, and our property values.  Being a governing board member is something that I both enjoy doing and am dedicated to doing well.

Our Catalina Foothills School District continues to have all schools rated “excelling” for the fifth year in a row.  We are the only K–12 school district in the state with such a designation for all our schools.  Our successes go well beyond this distinction with graduation rates high and over 90% of our graduates furthering their education, many at the most prestigious universities in our country.  As a community we should be proud of these successes for we have a part in them through high volunteerism in the schools, support from the educational foundation, and our continued passage of bonds and overrides that support both maintenance and operations as well as the infrastructure of the district.

21^st century learning is not just a catch phrase.  It is very real that our students learn in different ways with technology an important tool in their learning.  This is no longer a world of just pencils, paper, and chalkboards although they still have a place in the classroom!  It is important that we have technology in the hands of both our teachers and our learners as our students prepare themselves for lifelong learning and to be good citizens of the world.  Advancing the use of technology must be a priority for the board and our community.

Opportunities for improvement and better ways of meeting our students’ needs will always be before us and I look forward to those challenges.  I also look forward to hearing from members of the community on how we can best meet our challenges.

He servido como miembro de la Junta Directiva del Distrito Escolar de Catalina Foothills durante los últimos 12 años y les pido que voten por mí para continuar en la junta durante 4 años más. Mientras he participado en la junta, he sido presidente de la junta varias veces y he participado en cada uno de los procesos de planificación estratégica del distrito. El plan estratégico dirige la orientación y concentración de los esfuerzos del distrito escolar para mejorar todo lo que hacemos por nuestros alumnos.

Las responsabilidades de la junta directiva incluyen fijar normas, dirección y el presupuesto para el distrito escolar. Los miembros de la junta también realizan la evaluación del superintendente del distrito y vigilan el progreso del plan estratégico del distrito. La manera en que llevamos a cabo nuestro trabajo afecta a los alumnos, la comunidad y los valores de las propiedades. Siendo un miembro de la junta directiva es algo que me gusta hacer y que me dedico a hacer bien.

El Distrito Escolar de Catalina Foothills continúa con todas sus escuelas calificadas como “sobresaliendo” durante cinco años consecutivos. Somos el único distrito en el estado de preescolar hasta el grado 12 que tiene esa designación para todas sus escuelas. Nuestros éxitos van más allá de esta distinción con altos porcentajes de alumnos que terminan sus estudios, y más de 90% de los graduados continúan su educación, muchos de ellos asistiendo a las universidades más prestigiosas en el país. Como comunidad debemos ser orgullosos de estos éxitos porque hemos participado en ellos, con muchas personas haciendo trabajo voluntario en las escuelas, con apoyo de la fundación educativa, y con la aprobación continua de bonos y rebases del presupuesto que apoyan mantenimiento y operaciones, además de la infraestructura del distrito.

El aprendizaje en el siglo 21 no es solamente un eslogan. Es la verdad que nuestros alumnos aprenden de maneras distintas y la tecnología es una herramienta importante para su aprendizaje. La escuela ya no es un mundo de solamente lápices, papel y pizarras, aunque siguen en su lugar en el aula. Es importante que los maestros y los alumnos tengan la tecnología a su disposición, mientras los alumnos se preparan para aprender durante toda la vida y para ser buenos ciudadanos del mundo. Avanzar el uso de la tecnología tiene que ser prioridad para la junta directiva y para la comunidad.

Siempre tendremos delante oportunidades para mejorar y mejores maneras de cumplir las necesidades de los alumnos, y me hacen ilusión estos retos. También me hace ilusión escuchar a los miembros de la comunidad sobre cómo podemos enfrentarnos mejor a nuestros retos.
