As a member of the Sahuarita Governing Board, I have (and will continue to) made a point of being available by phone or email to parents and community members, encouraging them to voice their concerns and suggestions. This is my eighth year on the Sahuarita Governing Board. I am currently running for a third term. During my eight years in office, I have taken advantage of the many training opportunities which the Arizona School Board Association (ASBA) offers to school board members throughout the state. Five years ago, I was appointed to the Arizona School Board Association’s (ASBA) Safety Committee, and I am currently serving a two year term on the ASBA Board of Directors as Pima County Co-Director. This position serves as liaison between the school board members of Pima County public schools, and ASBA. I was elected to this position by my fellow Pima County school board members.

Due to rapid development and population growth, as well as increased transportation costs, and lack of promised State funding for new schools, our district is facing many challenges at this time. Tough decisions will have to be made in the coming years. Currently, five of our high school teachers do not have their own classrooms. This means they have to carry their books and lesson plans to different rooms throughout the day; using the classrooms of other teachers during their planning periods. It is important that the entire community be included in discussions regarding these decisions.

During the years that my children were growing up, I was active in the Sahuarita Parent Teacher Club, serving as president for one year, as well as being a Brownie Co-leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a 4-H Cooking Leader. I am married, have two children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

I was born and raised in Tucson, and have lived in the Sahuarita District for 36 years. Prior to being elected to the school board, I was the principal’s secretary at Sahuarita High School for seven years. Three generations of our family have attended Sahuarita schools, including two great grandsons currently in the first and third grades. I have an Associates degree in Social Services from Pima Community College, and have over 25 years of experience in the workforce. This includes almost 11 years with Pima County, as a secretary and administrative assistant, as well as Resource Manager for Pima County Superior Court. For eight years, I ran a secretarial service from my home.

Please allow me to continue serving our children, by working with my fellow board members, the community and the State government to provide the best possible education for our children, by voting for me on November 4.

Como miembro de la Junta Directiva de Sahuarita, me he dedicado especialmente a estar disponible por teléfono o correo electrónico a los padres y los miembros de la comunidad (y lo seguiré estando), y les he animado a expresar sus preocupaciones y sugerencias. Este será el octavo año que participo en la Junta Directiva de Sahuarita. Soy candidata por un tercer periodo como miembro. Durante estos ocho años, me he aprovechado de las muchas oportunidades de capacitación que la Asociación de Juntas Escolares (siglas en inglés ASBA) les ofrece a miembros de juntas escolares en todo el estado. Hace cinco años, me nombraron al comité de seguridad de la ASBA, y actualmente estoy sirviendo un periodo de dos años como Co-Director del Condado de Pima en la Junta Directiva de ASBA. Los otros miembros de las juntas escolares en el Condado de Pima me eligieron a este puesto.

Debido al desarrollo y el crecimiento de la población tan rápidos, además de los costos aumentados del transporte, nuestro distrito se enfrenta a muchos retos en estos momentos. Habrá que tomar decisiones difíciles en los años venideros. Actualmente, cinco de nuestros maestros en la escuela superior no tienen aulas propias. Esto significa que tienen que cargar sus libros y planes de enseñanza a varias aulas durante el día, usando las aulas de otros maestros durante sus horas de planificación. Es importante que la comunidad entera se involucre en las conversaciones sobre estas decisiones.

Cuando mis hijos se criaban, tuve un papel activo en el Club de Padres y Maestros de Sahuarita, del cual fui presidente un año. Además fui co-líder de Brownies, madre de una patrulla de Cub Scouts, y líder de cocina de 4-H. Soy casada, tengo dos hijos, seis nietos y tres bisnietos.

Nací y me crié en Tucson, y he vivido en el Distrito de Sahuarita durante 36 años. Antes de ser elegida a la junta escolar, fue la secretaria del director de la escuela superior de Sahuarita durante siete años. Han asistido a escuelas de Sahuarita tres generaciones de nuestra familia, incluyendo dos bisnietos que están actualmente en el primer y el tercer grados. Tengo un título de Asociado en Servicios Sociales del Colegio Comunitario de Pima, y más de 25 años de experiencia trabajando. Esto incluye casi 11 años con el Condado de Pima, como secretaria y ayudante administrativo, además de ser Gerente de Recursos para el Tribunal Superior del Condado de Pima. Durante ocho años tuve mi propio negocio de secretaria desde mi hogar.
