American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model, Revisions from the 3rd Edition

Participants are encouraged to bring their student competencies, calendars, action plans, and copies of the ASCA National Model and/or ASCA Workbook
Management and Delivery Systems of the ASCA National Model
This Workshop will review the components of the management and delivery systems with an update from the 3rd edition of the ASCA National Model (June, 2012). Counselors will use their grade level student competencies and data to develop action plans, closing the gap action plans, guidance lessons, and small groups. Included are guidelines for developing an Advisory Committee, Counselor/Principal agreement, weekly, monthly, and yearly calendars. The revised time on task form along with the modified delivery system components will be included. The Arizona school counselor evaluation instrument, scoring rubric, glossary and job description will be reviewed for implementation. Workshop will help counselors become “Ramp Ready” and will provide resources for college and career readiness.

Foundation and Accountability Systems of the ASCA National Model
Components of the foundation and accountability systems with an update from the 3rd edition of the
ASCA National Model (June 2012) will be reviewed in this workshop. Included will be additions to the foundation section including the counselor competencies and the ethical and legal issues section. Also program assessment, action plans, closing the gap action plans, results reports, and closing the gap results reports are included. An emphasis on how to access, analyze, interpret and display data will be discussed. The Arizona school counselor evaluation instrument, scoring rubric, glossary and job description will be reviewed for implementation. Workshop will provide guidelines for preparing for the RAMP Award and a structure for preparing students Grades 1-12 for College and Career Readiness.
Creating Lesson Plans Based on Data To Prepare Students for Post-Secondary Options

Participants should bring their ASCA handbooks, current lesson plans, and data samples from their school, ex. Attendance, discipline, college acceptance rates, parent involvement, and other samples.
This workshop will focus on data as it is embedded into counselor guidance lessons K-12 for the classroom or in small groups. The workshop includes creating lesson plans that show results by incorporating the ASCA standards and competencies, Arizona Common Core Standards, and the ASCA data skills. Participants will understand how to make data-informed decisions, based on the lesson plan units for classroom and small group lesson plans. Participants will leave with units and sample lesson plans that align with their monthly pacing calendars and with the College Board Grades 1-12 competencies for career and college readiness.
School/Family/Community Partnerships (SFCP) Prepare Students for Post-secondary Options and Raises Student achievement

This workshop will introduce school counselors and other school professionals to the six strategies to engage families and communities in the school as described by Dr. Joyce Epstein. Interactive activities will include: group discussion, video, needs assessment, hands-on tools, ideas for involvement, parents supporting career and college readiness, and parents as partners in addressing cyber bullying and other issues. Participants will leave with a SFCP Committee formation and One-Year Action Plan for School/Family/ Community Partnership Implementation within their schools.

Increasing college and career readiness for all students starts in kindergarten. School counselors are at the cutting edge to incorporate eight competencies, suggested by the College Board. Attendees will receive copies of the College Board competencies and materials, suggestions for career days, speaker suggestions, career shadowing ideas, and career lessons, and will leave with career action plans to begin using immediately in their classroom lessons.

Include the 40 Developmental Assets as part of school counseling lessons, student groups, and individual counseling will be addressed in this workshop. Attendees will learn approaches to integrate resiliency into education reform and increase student achievement. Lesson plans and group topics will be included along with an extensive resiliency book list.
Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) Supports College Readiness
